Is Professor of Neurology and chairman of the department of Neurology at the University Hospital Leuven and of the department of Experimental Neurology at the University of Leuven, School of Medicine. He is director of the Neuromuscular Reference Center at the University Hospital Leuven and directs a multidisciplinary team for ALS care and clinical research that is actively involved in ALS genetics and clinical trials. Wim Robberecht is a group leader of the Vesalius Research Center in the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) at the University of Leuven. His basis research exclusively focuses on the pathogenesis of ALS and the generation of possible treatment strategies for this disease. For this work he received the Sheila Essey award for ALS research of the American Academy of Neurology in 2008. |
